A heartbreaking case has happened in Mysuru, where a wife and child say her husband abandoned her and their newborn after a love marriage that began with Instagram. Now she is in search of justice and shelter, she said.
According to the information available, the woman Sindhu hails from Mahalingapura Tanda in Gadag district. She met a young man named Rakesh, a resident of Sollapura village in H.D. Kote taluk of Mysuru district, through Instagram. Their online friendship soon turned into a romantic relationship.
Sindhu is believed to have left her family and married Rakesh. The couple gave birth to a baby, which became an emblem of their relationship and life.
However, the relationship took a drastic turn. Sindhu says that Rakesh and his family later abandoned her and the child without support or a place to stay. She has to seek help from the authorities.
In an emotional plea for justice, Sindhu was seen standing near the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue with her infant in her arms, breaking down in tears. The mother’s helplessness to her child and plea for help is what people here are looking at, and many of them are empathizing with her.
She later approached a local police station and pleaded to be protected, housed, and provided with legal aid. She says she has been betrayed despite having faith in the man she loves and married. She is also pleading with the government to do something for herself and her child.
Police have acknowledged her complaint and will investigate the facts of the allegations. They may record statements from both sides before deciding what to do. So far, Sindhu’s allegations have not been independently verified, and Rakesh or his family has not publicly addressed the allegations.
The incident has once again brought home the fact that there are more and more disputes with people on social media. Many online relationships work out, and successful marriages are there with the right level of risk, background checks, and legal protection before decisions are made in life-changing ways.
Women’s rights activists say cases involving the alleged abandonment of spouses and children must be taken immediately, and the welfare of the mother and child needs to be ensured.
Sindhu’s emotional images of her carrying her infant while seeking justice have touched many people on social media, and people on social media have expressed their hopes for a fair investigation and proper support for the family.
The authorities will continue to investigate and act based on the findings of the investigation, they said.
