LPG consumers who have not completed their e-KYC verification have some relief since the deadline has been extended to August 23, 2026. The extension came after several consumers found themselves having technical challenges, including server problems and issues with LPG company applications while attempting to complete the Aadhaar-based verification.
The e-KYC exercise is aimed at verifying genuine LPG consumers and identifying duplicate, inactive or ineligible connections. Moreover, the government and oil marketing companies have been working to strengthen the authentication process so that LPG-related benefits and services reach eligible consumers.
The extension gives consumers the time to complete verification and to avoid service disruptions and loss of benefits. Problems are also reported by consumers and LPG dealers with the e-KYC system.
LPG e-KYC deadline: August 23
The prior deadline was August 16/17 according to the communication that the consumers received. The deadline is now extended to August 23, 2026, to give a little more time to those who cannot complete the process because of technical issues.
As such, consumers should not wait until the last day to complete the process. Completing the process early can avoid last-minute server congestion or problems with authentication.
The e-KYC requirement is particularly relevant for customers who have not completed the verification earlier. The Petroleum Ministry has clarified that customers who have already completed the required e-KYC generally do not need to repeat the process simply because of the latest deadline.
Why is LPG e-KYC being carried out?
The verification process is designed to ensure that LPG connections are linked to genuine and eligible consumers. It also helps identify duplicate or ineligible connections and to make domestic LPG distribution more transparent.
The government has previously used digital KYC and authentication systems in LPG services to improve customer verification and support more efficient delivery of benefits.
For eligible consumers, e-KYC may be important in order to have continuous access to LPG-related services and government benefits.
Who needs to complete e-KYC?
Customers of the three major public-sector LPG companies can complete the verification process. These include:
Indane LPG
Bharat Gas
HP Gas
Consumers who have already completed their e-KYC should first check their current KYC status rather than unnecessarily repeating the process.
The requirement is especially important for customers receiving LPG-related subsidies or benefits under government schemes. PMUY beneficiaries should be cognizant of the authentication requirements.
How can I complete the LPG e-KYC at home?
One of the quick options available to consumers is completing the process digitally through the relevant LPG company's official application.
Consumers can generally use the LPG provider's app and the Aadhaar FaceRD facility for face-based authentication. The process allows eligible customers to complete verification without necessarily visiting an LPG agency.
Users should download the official app of their LPG provider, log in using their registered customer details, and look for the e-KYC or Aadhaar authentication option. They can then follow the instructions provided in the application for identity verification.
Because authentication requirements and app interfaces can change, consumers should follow the instructions displayed in the official LPG application rather than relying on unofficial links or third-party applications.
e-KYC can also be completed through LPG agencies
If consumers are unable to complete online verification, they can approach their LPG distributor or agency for assistance. Delivery personnel or authorised LPG representatives may also assist with verification depending on the facilities in the area.
This can be useful for elderly consumers who suffer smartphone-related problems, or customers who have had trouble repeatedly with their online authentication.
Don't panic about the ₹3,000 claim
Some consumer messages say that failure to complete e-KYC will immediately force customers to purchase a cylinder for around ₹3,000. Consumers should be careful about treating such claims as an automatic penalty.
The consequences of not completing e-KYC can depend on the consumer category, subsidy eligibility, and LPG company or government rules. Recently, the failure to complete verification can adversely affect eligibility for subsidies and services in some cases, but the LPG connection is not necessarily cancelled.
Therefore, consumers should verify their KYC status and get information directly from their LPG distributor or their own oil marketing company channels.
