The Maharashtra School Education Department has warned junior colleges not to admit students to Class 11 through offline or unauthorised channels. The department has asked institutions across the state to follow the prescribed centralised online admission system for FYJC admissions (2026-27) in academic year 2025-26.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has directed education deputy directors to ensure junior colleges follow state’s centralised admission process. Reports had surfaced that some institutions were admitting Class 11 students outside the official admission process (some admissions beyond sanctioned intake).
Under Maharashtra’s FYJC admission policy students seeking admission in Class 11 to higher secondary schools and junior colleges have to appear for centralised online merit based process. It is supposed to be uniform across the state while seats are allocated on basis of applicable admission criteria and availability.
The department has said junior colleges should not admit students for Class 11 through offline arrangements. Colleges which accept students without following the authorised procedure may be penalised by education authorities.
Unauthorised admissions may create problems later
One of the concerns that department has is if unauthorized Class 11 admissions are not regularised when students reach Class 12 then what will happen to them? If an admission made outside the system is not regularised then they will have a problem during subsequent academic procedures like registration for Class 12 under Maharashtra State Board.
This is especially important for students and parents who might approach individual colleges directly after failing to get a seat of their choice through the central system. An offline admission may seem like an immediate solution but later on if the college admits them without approval or beyond its intake capacity students could have problems.
Parents and students should therefore check that their Class 11 admission has been done through the official FYJC system and that the college allotted and course are reflected in the authorized admission records.
Colleges and principals could face disciplinary action
The Directorate has also warned institutions and principals who violate admission rules of disciplinary action. Action may be proposed under the Maharashtra Employees of Private Schools (Conditions of Service) Act, 1977 and Rules thereof of 1981 respectively (directive).
The warning is that junior college authorities should only admit students through the approved process. Colleges must take their sanctioned intake and not accept students through arrangements not authorized by the education department.
The action against violations is also to prevent irregularities in Class 11 admission and ensure that students who follow the official procedure are not disadvantaged by unauthorised admissions.
What students should know about FYJC admissions
The centralised FYJC system will manage Class 11 admissions across Maharashtra on a common online platform. Students should not approach colleges individually for admission instead they have to complete the online procedure prescribed by education authorities and follow official schedule and instructions issued by education authorities.
So for the 2026-27 academic year students should therefore rely on the official admission portal and instructions issued by Maharashtra School Education Department. Students should also save their admission documents, application details and allotment information safely for future use.
The latest warning is a reminder that if students get an admission through an unofficial channel they could end up with unnecessary problems later in their education. Even if a college offers an offline seat students and parents should check whether the admission is recognised under state’s FYJC framework before proceeding further.
The state government’s latest directive ultimately aims to keep Class 11 admissions centralised, transparent and merit-based. Colleges have been warned of action for violations and junior colleges are expected to follow online FYJC admission system strictly for the academic session 2026-27.
