Two sisters are reported missing from Mandya region, Karnataka, from which a sad note was seen, which explained its purpose in the case of two younger sisters who were getting scolded off the leave from there by their mother.
The incident also occurred in Kalenahalli Shed village, Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district. The girls are Sujatha (16) and Rukmini (14), the daughters of Ramachandra, who lives in a village. The two sisters are thought to have vanished following a scolding from their mother about the domestic situation, according to the police.
The girls, who were subsequently missing, were discovered by relatives searching the surrounding area, and a handwritten note was found in the house. The word of note has sent shockwaves through the family and people who dwell nearby.
The sisters had purportedly apologised to their parents in the letter, saying they weren’t able to die in front of their parents and also saying they were going far away and ending their lives, the women said. The emotional content of this note raised concerns over the safety and mental health of both girls.
The girls’ father reported to the police upon finding the note and filing a missing persons complaint. The report says Srirangapatna Rural Police lodged the complaint and began a search for the children. The police reportedly started searching bus stands, rail stations, adjacent towns and other places in public soon after for methods to immediately reach the girls.
They’re also watching local CCTV footage and looking for the location of the sisters when they left home to search for them. The villagers now wait for their kids to be home safely. Residents, their families and visitors unite in the search, calling on the public to give everything they believe they can help find the girls.
When analysing suspected behaviour and cases, police officials report that presumed missing minors and crimes involving emotional distress or self-harm are prioritised. Officers are also working with the family and collecting more information that may be useful in helping them find the kids there sooner. The case has similarly raised concerns around mental or emotional health problems among teenagers.
Children and teenagers generally respond to interpersonal conflict, family discord or personal stressors related to education or work or personal stress with an emotional response, experts said, so communication and emotional support in the home are critical. Psychologists in the field of child psychology have long argued that parents need to keep their lines of communication open with children, and that in an emotional atmosphere, kids will fail no more than any other person.
Sometimes these children make hasty decisions, despite having been hurt or scared, because they are stressed. But at the moment, the public has been cautioned against rumours or unverified facts about the case spreading on social media, they said.
The authorities alerted citizens to call the nearest police station when they spot the missing girls or are alerted for the whereabouts of where they are located. Officials said the search continued, "Srirangapatna Rural Police Station" is currently monitoring and "assured that the sisters would be located in a timely and safe fashion."
