Mother Dairy hikes milk prices by Rs 2 per litre after Amul; check revised milk rates

Mother Dairy has increased milk costs by Rs 2 per litre in its liquid milk variants, following a similar increase. The changed prices went into effect on May 14, 2026, and are believed to affect customers in Delhi-NCR and other major markets.

They claimed the price hike was forced due to the increase in milk buying costs for farmers over the past year. Procurement prices increased by nearly 6 per cent, according to the firm Mother Dairy, forcing the company to pass on some of the costs to customers.

According to the new pricing model, Mother Dairy toned milk will now cost Rs 60 per litre, up from Rs 58, and full cream milk will now be sold for Rs 72 per litre, up from Rs 70. While double-toned milk has gone up from Rs 52 to Rs 54 per litre, and cow milk will be at Rs 62 per litre, up from Rs 60. Bulk-vended milk or so-called token milk has also increased in price to Rs 58 per litre.

And Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells dairy products under the brand Amul, also raised prices of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre earlier. Amul said rising operational costs, such as increased costs for cattle feed, prices for packaging materials, prices for fuel, and increased payments to dairy farmers, were the main factors in revising the price.

With Amul moving higher on these charges, the Amul Gold 500 ml pack will now cost Rs 35, and the Amul Taaza 500 ml pack will be at Rs 29, as per Amul's revised rates. Both cow milk and buffalo milk variants have seen price increases for various pack sizes.

The concurrent increases in price caused by two of India's biggest dairy brands are likely to generate similar adjustments from regional milk suppliers in the coming weeks, industry insiders believe. Such an increase would also likely increase the pressure on household budgets at a time of climbing food inflation and rising household living costs.
