An incident involving eggs allegedly being thrown at a Ganpati idol and devotees during a procession in Mumbai’s Mazgaon area has stoked anger among festival participants and led to the launch by authorities. The incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. in the Naralwadi area of Mazgaon, where a Ganpati aagman procession of groups like Mazgaon Cha Morya was going through.
According to information on the internet, unidentified people threw eggs at the Ganpati idol and people in the procession. The situation was very bad for the devotees who felt insulted and hurt by what they regarded as an insult to the religious procession. People gathered on the roads and shouted slogans and asked that those who committed it should be identified and arrested.
The incident happened when Ganpati aagman processions are taking place across Mumbai. Such processions involve carrying or escorting Ganesh idols to their respective venues where music, decorations, dancing, and religious festivities will be happening. Police are generally working with large crowds on city roads when they are working with more people to keep it safe and also to control traffic.
As soon as the egg-throwing incident was reported, devotees blocked roads in the area and called for immediate action from the authorities.
