According to initial information, the theft took place at the Omkareshwara Temple in Hebbal village in Hunsur taluk. The suspects entered the temple premises and stole several pooja items and the temple hundi before attempting to escape from the vicinity.

The incident apparently came to light when residents noticed the suspicious movement of the accused. The suspects tried to get away from the scene in a car after the theft, but some young people from the village saw the vehicle and started chasing it.

The pursuit continued as the youngsters tried to stop the accused from getting away. The villagers’ quick response apparently helped put pressure on the suspects. But as the police tried to catch the accused, two of the accused fled from the spot.

Police have since intensified the search for the suspects and are trying to trace them. One of those accused is Mohammed Anas Adil, a resident of the Kesare area of Mysuru. Police have taken the accused into custody as part of the investigation.

Authorities are also trying to find out the identity and role of the second accused and whether they are linked with other temple thefts reported in the region.

The theft of temple hundi and pooja materials has raised the concerns of devotees and residents. In villages, temples depend on donations and offerings from devotees, so the theft of hundis is a sensitive issue for the local community.

Police will investigate how the accused entered the temple and whether they had carried out a prior reconnaissance of the location. CCTV footage from the temple and nearby roads, if available, will help investigators to locate the suspects and the vehicle used in the alleged crime.

The residents of the area are also involved in pursuing the suspects. Their quick response to the accused prevented the accused from being able to escape and triggered the police to look into the theft.

Police are continuing to investigate and questioning the arrested suspect to know more about the incident. Authorities are also likely to investigate whether the stolen temple articles and hundi have been recovered.

The incident has once again raised concerns about security at religious places, especially in rural areas. Residents are expected to seek stronger security arrangements around temples to prevent such incidents in the future.

As we proceed with the investigation, we will get information about the recovery of the stolen items, the arrest of the second suspect, and any links to other cases.
