A mega job fair to create jobs for unemployed youth and to advance the economic well-being of farmers will be held in Piriyapatna Taluk of Mysuru district on 27 September. The programme will be a convergence of employment opportunities, farmer support and recognition of local achievers.
The event is organised with Okkaliga Yuva Brigade and Nanjegowda Nanjunda’s Friends Circle. The programme will begin at 10 am at the Manasa Educational Institution in Piriyapatna.
The job fair is expected to be one of the main attractions of the event. Unemployed young men and women looking for opportunities in different sectors will have a chance to meet companies and employers directly. The programme will see selected progressive farmers receive indigenous Malnad Gidda cattle. The aim is to encourage farmer self-reliance and conservation of traditional and locally adapted cattle breeds.
Malnad Gidda is able to adapt to the environment and climate in the Malnad region. Rearing these indigenous cattle can be considered to be a part of dairy farming and, therefore, for farmers.
Cattle rearing can complement agricultural activities and encourage organic farming, the organisers say. So the distribution programme is being portrayed as one that is to help keep rural livelihoods and raise awareness of the value of traditional cattle breeds.
‘Nammura Hemme’ Awards for Local Achievers
One other component of the programme will be the ‘Nammura Hemme’ awards, which will recognise people from the local community who are distinguished in different fields.
The ceremony is intended to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of local personalities. According to the organisers, such people have to be recognised, and young people and the general public should also get involved in socially beneficial activities and contribute to their communities.
