A disturbing case of alleged kidnapping and gang rape has come to light from Karnataka’s Mysuru district, where a young woman from West Bengal was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by three men.
The incident, which allegedly took place two days ago, has shocked residents and led to swift action from law enforcement authorities. Police have arrested all three accused within 24 hours of the complaint being registered and have initiated a detailed investigation into the case.
According to police sources, the victim was Kalpana Munda, a West Bengal native. The woman was kidnapped from a private bus stand in T. Narasipura town of Mysuru district. The accused forced her into a vehicle and took her away from the site against her will. The woman was taken to a lodge near Santhemaralli in Chamarajanagar district, where she was gang raped by the three accused.
The accused were identified as Kiran, Kishore, and Riyan, all residents of T. Narasipura. Based on the victim’s complaint and initial evidence gathered through the investigation, police started an intensive search operation. The accused were traced and captured within 24 hours, which police officials said was due to prompt and coordinated efforts by the investigating team.
According to police, after their arrests, the accused were taken before a court and remanded into custody. Police have registered a case at the T. Narasipura Police Station under relevant provisions of the law on kidnapping, wrongful confinement, and sexual assault. Witness statements, CCTV from locations connected with the case, and records from the lodge where the alleged assault took place are now being sought, as well, the investigators said.
People who are involved in the investigation are now providing necessary support and assistance to the victim, police said. Police will also investigate the sequence of events leading up to the alleged crime and verify the movements of the victim and accused before and after the incident. Forensic evidence and witness testimony will come into play in the case.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of women who are away from their native places for work or other reasons. Women's rights activists and residents have called for strict punishment against those found guilty and urged authorities to ensure a speedy trial in the case.
