Namma Metro Services to Be Disrupted on May 10 Due to Maintenance Work, Says BMRCL

BMRCL also declared on Sunday, May 10, a suspension of Namma Metro as it needs to carry out a due service overhaul for the Purple Line in Bengaluru. “Metro train services between Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji (Hosahalli) station and Cubbon Park Metro Station will be suspended for two hours on Sunday morning from 7.00 am to 9.00 am,” the statement read.

The work will be in connection with the Purple Line section, between Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic), Sir M. Visvesvaraya Station (Central College) and relevant stations, as infrastructure repair will be scheduled. BMRCL said that in its move, the stoppage of work is intended to help in infrastructure repairs associated with necessary metro network improvements and to make the system more reliable.

Metro Authority guests must observe and use the temporary halt and travel if need be until the station returns to service, as they don't want to keep on that line, especially during those hours. Also, they have to remind people that everything, except the Purple Line service, is operational by 7 a.m. and on time. The trains for the following routes will be available during a maintenance period:

  • Challaghatta – Vijayanagar.
  • M.G. Road – Whitefield (Kadugodi).
  • Madavara – Silk Institute.
  • R.V. Road – Bommasandra.

That is followed by the release of Purple Line, no longer subject to delays, with commuters continuing on the unaffected Purple and Green lines providing metro services.

Once the maintenance work is complete, transit between Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji Station (Hosahalli) and Cubbon Park Metro Station will operate normally again, as well as the entire Purple Line corridor being reinstated and open back again from 9 a.m., BMRCL said in further comment.

The news comes at a time when gridlocked road networks across Bengaluru are aggravated, affecting the daily commuters of residents heading to Namma Metro to get to the city or even a stop. Even a brief break in some key highways can stretch thousands, especially for those passing through the swiftly shifting Majestic interchange station.

The Purple Line is the busiest metro route in the area, linking the eastern and western sections of the district of Bengaluru, a wider urban space than most metro lines that serve Central India, with three major business and residential sectors. It is also a profitable weekend option, not to mention the line is well serviced by most of the major transit hubs and business districts.

“If you are going through the part being temporarily suspended during this time, there are also transport options available for the rest of the network in other parts of the day,” BMRCL adds. The officials also advise passengers to consult official metro updates ahead of their departure on Sunday morning.

Regular checks of the metro network components in accordance with all necessary measures in the sense that they are functional and sufficient enough to be able to monitor the safety, traffic signal, and safe operation of the metro system, and, in that way, to ensure passengers are all safe.

Temporary maintenance work brought on by the shutdown will ensure all services become available after the temporary stop for a longer period, its workers told the employees, thus allowing operational activities to continue smoothly and continue uninterrupted. BMRCL, which claims that operations will resume following 9 a.m., has confirmed to passengers that the repair work is in progress and will be finished promptly in order to avoid the inconvenience of the travellers.
