In the most serious action against illegal arms in its history of enforcement, the Nanded Rural Police in Maharashtra seized nearly 4,800 sharp edged weapons in a raid in the Wazirabad area of Nanded district.
A huge amount of swords, knives, daggers, sharp-edged weapons, and other dangerous weapons have been seized in the raid, raising fears of an organized illegal arms distribution network in the area.
The raid was conducted at a house in Ramdas Nagar, Wazirabad, after the police received intelligence from a police tip-off. Officers quickly searched the house and arrived to find around 4,796 sharp weapons in the house. The recovered weapons are worth a few lakh rupees, the officials said.
Police sources said the seized items included a large number of bladed weapons including swords, daggers, machetes, and knives.
The sheer volume of the recovery surprised even experienced investigators and is one of the largest seizures of sharp weapons in the district in recent years.
Following the operation, the Nanded Rural Police launched a detailed investigation to determine the source of the weapons, their intended destination, and whether they were intended for illegal sale, criminal activities, or distribution to organized groups.
Individuals linked to the stockpile and whether the operation extends beyond Maharashtra are also being looked at.
Police officers suspect the house served as a point in the chain for a larger illegal supply chain, sources said. A number of teams are presently trying to trace the purchase and transport of the weapons. Financial records and communication details are also being reviewed to uncover the network behind the operation, they said.
