The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is going to launch its revamped ticket booking website on 15 July 2026 in an attempt to address longstanding problems that passengers have been experiencing.
Slow speed, CAPTCHA delays, and frequent crashes have been the reasons for Tatkal bookings being delayed and crashed, it says. In a move that is a step in the digital transformation of railway services, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw instructed officials to create the latest, faster and more efficient platform within 30 days.
The new IRCTC portal is expected to have a vast increase in capacity with 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute now compared to 32,000. Inquiry capacity will also increase tenfold from 4 lakh to 40 lakh per minute. This upgrade should reduce booking failures and help to smooth things out during peak hours.
A multilingual interface will make the site more accessible across India. A fare calendar will enable users to compare ticket prices over dates and therefore plan trips more economically. Advanced seat selection will allow for better flexibility for travelers, and there will be special features for students, patients, and Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).
Tatkal bookings, notorious for system crashes, will be optimized with faster processing to reduce failures. With the new system, we will have improved accessibility tools to make sure all types of passengers are included.
The transformation is part of a larger modernization plan. The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will also be upgraded in August 2026, which will be efficient. In addition to that, more than 200 railway stations, including Jaipur, are being modernized as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme – in line with the government to make the passenger experience better across India.
