The Hilux has earned its reputation in the world for its durable, reliable, and amazing off-road capability. Since its introduction in India over four years ago, it's found a niche among adventure enthusiasts, commercial users, and buyers looking for a pickup that is both urban and difficult to drive. The new model is going to do that with contemporary design and comfort.

Probably the most noticeable change is the visual redesign. The new Hilux has Toyota's new design philosophy on the front with slimmer LED headlamps, black trim and a Toyota lettering, a bigger honeycomb grille, muscular wheel arches and a redesigned front bumper. The side profile remains tough but now has clean body lines and alloy wheels. At the rear, there are vertical LED tail lamps and a redesigned tailgate that give the pickup a new look.

In the cabin, Toyota has made the Hilux all-new inside the cabin. The dashboard has been redesigned with a modern look, a 12.3-inch screen display for infotainment, and an instrument cluster on top of the infotainment and instrument cluster with dual 12.3-inch digital displays and a more modern look and feel. There is also an improved steering wheel, updated materials, and a more ergonomic design in place for comfort and convenience for long drives.

The feature list will be a significant upgrade. Buyers can expect wireless smartphone charging, connected car technology, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear seat heating, ventilated front seats, powered seat adjustment, multiple drive modes, a 360-degree camera system, over-the-air software update, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite with lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and driver attention alerts will be available to them. Physical buttons for the main controls for the front controls have been retained as well for off-road use with the vehicle.

Mechanically, the India-spec Hilux will continue with Toyota's proven 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which already has 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Transmission options could be a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox with Toyota's four-wheel drive system as standard. Industry reports also suggest that the pickup could be equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid "Neo Drive" system like the one introduced on the Fortuner, which would help improve fuel efficiency and refinement without sacrificing performance.

Although Toyota has introduced an all-electric Hilux in some markets globally, it has not yet been officially announced that it will be available in India. The diesel-powered version is likely to be the first choice of Indian customers.

The current Hilux is priced at around ₹28.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and the new one will be more expensive due to the high-tech and high-end features and equipment. The price could increase by almost ₹1 lakh, and Toyota could move to two variants instead of three to avoid the need for a lot of people to buy from the existing three.

The new Hilux will continue to compete in India’s premium lifestyle pickup market with rivals such as the Isuzu V-Cross and buyers seeking rugged SUVs with strong off-road abilities. Toyota is expected to highlight Hilux's durability, reliability, and adventure-oriented qualities while targeting a wider audience with the premium cabin and added technology.

Expectation of the next generation of Toyota Hilux to become the next all-around pickup truck in India’s fast-growing lifestyle pickup market. Final specifications and variants of the Hilux will be announced on July 28th and be available to customers and will give people a look at the future of Toyota’s new pickup truck in a new light to them.
