Maruti Suzuki is set to give its popular premium hatchback a fresh update ahead of this year’s festive season. The 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift is going to be released in India on September 5 and will be the first major update to the second-generation Baleno, which debuted in 2022.
The facelift is expected to be about fresh styling, new features and improvements in the interior while keeping the Baleno’s familiar platform and mechanical system.
New design could bring Baleno a fresh look.Test vehicles suggest that Maruti Suzuki will make noticeable changes to the front of the Baleno. The facelift will have an updated grille and front bumper, and the overall shape should be very similar.
Additional alloy wheels and an updated tail-lamp could further differentiate the updated hatchback from the outgoing model. The cabin will probably retain much of the dashboard layout but will receive new upholstery, trim and additional equipment.
More Features Expected Inside
The current Baleno already has features such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control and a head-up display.
The facelift could bring other upgrades like a bigger touchscreen, ambient lighting, wireless charging and a single-pane sunroof. But these changes have not been officially confirmed by Maruti Suzuki and should be treated as expectations until launch.
Engine options: Petrol and CNG likely to continue
The safest expectation is that Maruti will keep the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. In the current Baleno, this engine generates 90hp and 113Nm and it is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT.
The CNG version is also expected to continue, producing around 77.5hp and 98.5Nm and being offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
There is also speculation about the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine. However, it has not been confirmed. There have also been reports that Maruti will introduce affordable hybrid technology, but buyers will have to wait until it is confirmed.
Expected Price and Rivals
The current Baleno is priced from around ₹5.99 lakh to ₹9.17 lakh ex-showroom. The facelift is expected to benefit from some additional equipment and may receive a modest premium. Currently, there is a general range of ₹6 lakh–₹9.5 lakh and the final price will be released at launch date.
The new Baleno will continue to compete with premium hatchbacks such as the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza.
With a new design and possibly with more technology and familiar petrol and CNG choices the Baleno facelift could arrive at a crucial time for Maruti Suzuki. The September 5 launch will reveal whether the company has kept the update conservative or added a major surprise under the bonnet.
