A young woman was killed by her boyfriend during a dispute over their relationship in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, police said. The suspect, Bala Saidulu, was arrested in connection to the case and taken to court and remanded in judicial custody.
The victim was Haseena, a native of Chilakaluripeta. As per the preliminary investigation, Haseena was going for a B.Tech at a private engineering college in Guntur when she met Saidulu through Instagram. The two had been in a relationship for about five years, police said.
After graduating in engineering, Haseena joined a private company in Sullurupeta. Saidulu, meanwhile, returned to his native village Inuparajupalli in Karampudi mandal and took up agricultural work.
According to investigators, tensions arose between the couple when Haseena began working. Saidulu became suspicious when her communication with him seemed to have decreased after she got in work, police said. He believed she was speaking to other men, although the details of the dispute are still being investigated.
Police said Saidulu had asked Haseena to meet him in the vicinity of Chintapalli near Karampudi mandal on Friday to talk about their relationship. The two had an argument at that time and Saidulu allegedly attacked Haseena with a knife.
Police also said that the accused attempted to destroy evidence after the attack before leaving the area. A partially burnt body was found later at Nagarjuna Sagar canal bund in Karampudi mandal.
Haseena’s family became worried after she failed to return home. Her relatives then approached Chilakaluripeta police station and filed a missing person complaint.
As police were investigating her disappearance, they received information about the discovery of a body near the canal bund. The body was recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination. After the examination and identification procedures, authorities confirmed that the deceased was Haseena.
The discovery greatly helped the investigation, leading police to find out who the victim knew and trace her movements before her death. Saidulu was later tracked down and taken into custody for questioning.
Police said Saidulu confessed to the crime. On the basis of the investigation and the evidence gathered, he was arrested and presented before a court. The court remanded him to judicial custody.
Police have said that the motive of the alleged murder is still being investigated. The dispute related to the relationship and the accused’s suspicion has become the focal point of the investigation, and authorities are expected to examine all available evidence before reaching a final conclusion.
Investigators will look at call records, digital communications, location information, statements from family members and witnesses, and forensic evidence collected from the scene. Such evidence can help explain the sequence of events leading up to the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding Haseena’s death.
Both the accused and the victim have a history of the victim’s relationship with the man, police said.
The incident does point out that police should know more about what’s happening between the two parties before it escalates into violence and is important to know that they are investigating relationship-related disputes and threats or harassment.
