Two passengers were killed, and six others sustained serious injuries after a private omni bus allegedly rammed into a truck on Chennai–Trichy National Highway near the Perambalur Four Roads flyover on Thursday morning.
The private bus was carrying passengers from Chennai to Madurai when the accident occurred, the police said. The bus was travelling on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway to Madurai and was crossing the Perambalur Four Roads flyover when it collided with a truck in front of it.
The truck was moving cement slabs from Villupuram to Pudukkottai, where the material was to be used in a weighbridge. The bus collided with the rear of the truck, resulting in a major impact.
Two passengers died at the accident site due to the severity of the collision. The deceased have been identified as Pon Balthurai, a resident of Singampunari in Tirupattur district, and Thirunavukkarasu of Manali in Tiruvallur district.

Six people sustained serious injuries in the accident. Among them were bus driver Saravanan and a woman named Vennila from Madurai. The injured people were taken to the Government Hospital in Perambalur for treatment.
The accident was a source of concern for drivers travelling on the busy national highway and caused disruption of traffic on the Four Roads flyover as emergency and police personnel responded to the scene, the report said.
Police are investigating what caused the collision. A truck driver, Prabhu from Villupuram, is being questioned by police as part of the investigation.
Investigators are looking at the sequence of events to figure out why the private bus collided with the truck, and if speed, driver attention, road condition, or traffic movement played a role in the accident. Details of the accident could emerge as the police continue the investigation, said a police spokesman.
The incident once again illustrates the dangers faced by passengers and drivers on the highways since the heavy vehicles and passenger buses travel in the same direction. Chennai-Trichy National Highway is a major transport artery connecting many large cities in Tamil Nadu and carries heavy passenger and commercial traffic.
