Narendra Modi’s upcoming programme in Vadodara has received a huge response from the public, as all the available seats are booked within one hour of the opening of online registration.
The Prime Minister's programme is a first-of-its-kind participation of the public in the Prime Minister's programme and free registration is provided online on the BookMyShow platform under the watchful eye of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). More than 42,000 additional applicants were put on a waiting list after the seats were occupied.
The programme will happen in Vadodara on Tuesday, September 8, as part of PM Modi’s visit to Gujarat and Maharashtra. The decision to open participation through an online registration mechanism is a radical departure from the invitation-based approach in large government programmes. People had more than a chance to register digitally and access the event, instead of just being invited.
The response was very quick. Online registration was opened and the seats were filled within about one hour. The huge number of people who continued to apply to enter even after the seats were full resulted in more than 42,000 applicants on the waiting list. The response demonstrates the great interest in the visit of the Prime Minister and the big development projects that are planned or scheduled to be launched during the programme.
It is also notable that the Vadodara event is fully digital entry and attendance management. There will be a digital M-ticket issued to registered users through their BookMyShow accounts. The ticket will come with a secure live QR code that can be verified at the venue. Registration, verification, entry and seating are all being done in smart form, with technology-assisted mechanisms.
According to the report, the digital system was introduced to make entry more efficient and crowd movement better at the venue. Organisers can keep a database of attendees and avoid physical passes and manual verification by using digital registration and QR-based verification. The method might also serve as a model for how to manage participation at other large public events in the future.
The Prime Minister Modi’s Vadodara programme is not just public interaction. The visit is also expected to have a lot of infrastructure, rail connectivity and logistics. The Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 35,000 crore during his Gujarat visit.
One of the major highlights will be the dedication of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) which will be implemented in a span of 326 km. The sections are New Sanand-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-New Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority. The projects at more than Rs 20,700 crore will increase freight connections between industrial centres and ports.
Greater connectivity with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority is expected to facilitate export-import cargo and reduce logistics costs and to strengthen India's freight transportation system. The completion of these sections will also contribute to the wider operationalisation of the Dedicated Freight Corridor network.
The Prime Minister will also flag off freight train services from several places and introduce a new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara’s Pratapnagar. Another important project to be dedicated to the nation is the Jobat-Tanda Road railway line, under the Chhota Udepur-Dhar project. It will be a boon for the remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur to get better trains.
Several other railway and highway projects are also in the program. Foundation stones are scheduled to be laid for railway projects covering about 329 kilometres and with an investment of more than Rs 9,700 crore. National Highway projects worth about Rs 1,780 crore are also planned including six-laning and construction of additional road infrastructure.
Gujarat government's projects will also be prominent with the project worth over Rs 2,600 crore to be inaugurated or launched. This range of projects includes the second phase of Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam and new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office. Housing projects under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and a water supply scheme covering 11 villages in eastern Vadodara are also to be inaugurated.
The strong response to the online registration system has added another dimension to the Prime Minister’s Vadodara visit. And all available seats are booked within an hour and tens of thousands of people on the waiting list, the programme has shown how digital platforms can be used to organise large-scale public participation.
The initiative also stands out in that it integrates public access with digital technology-based event management. From online registration to QR-based entry to digitally managed seating, the Vadodara programme will be viewed as a technology-enabled one for large public gatherings.
Modi will then travel to Mumbai in a week-long trip in which he is scheduled to inaugurate the seventh edition of Global Fintech Fest 2026. The conference is scheduled from September 8 to 11 and will meet policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology firms and other stakeholders to discuss the future of finance and new technologies.
But for Vadodara the immediate focus is on the Prime Minister’s September 8 programme. The rapid pace of free online registration and the huge waiting list has shown the scale of public interest. The event will bring with it public participation, digital event management and the launch of major infrastructure projects so it will be one of the key events on the Prime Minister’s Gujarat visit.
