Several Congress leaders were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday afternoon after they protested outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi.
The protest was organised by Congress leaders and workers who gathered near the Prime Minister’s residence to raise their demands and express opposition to the Centre on various issues. Security personnel prevented the demonstrators from going past the high-security zone, and police detained some leaders and protesters for law and order.

Images from the protest showed Congress leaders raising slogans and carrying placards before being escorted into police vehicles by security personnel. The area around Lok Kalyan Marg, which houses the Prime Minister’s official residence, is a high-security zone where public demonstrations are subject to strict security protocols.
Delhi Police had to prevent protesters from entering the restricted zone because there were security concerns. The leaders of the group were arrested at the protest site, and the police were watching on.
The Congress has been organizing demonstrations in the capital over a range of political and public issues, to pressure the government to take action and hold it to account. Tuesday’s protest was part of the party’s continuing campaign against the Centre.
Delhi Police has not yet stated the number of people detained and whether any cases have been reported in connection with the protest. Similarly, the Congress party should also respond on the detentions and the consequences of this action and its next step.
The protest did not have to be violent, and the police kept the security arrangements around the Prime Minister's residence in place. Traffic and security arrangements were also tight during the demonstration.
The incident underlines the increased security of major government installations in the capital and the security measures which law enforcement agencies take when demonstrations occur near restricted areas.
