When asked about his favourite politician from BJP, he said former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and that he is a man he knows very well.

The interactive session was part of Rahul Gandhi’s digital outreach after the recent student protests in Delhi over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy. The Congress MP answered several questions from students about politics, education, leadership, and his personal views; it was among his most engaging interactions with young audiences.

Who is your favourite politician in BJP

Rahul Gandhi answered it with honesty: “Definitely Captain Amarinder Singh. I like him. He is cool.”

Gandhi went on to state that Amarinder Singh is an expert in military history. “He’s an expert on military history. So I really like him a lot,” said Gandhi, and he referred to the former Punjab Chief Minister as a great writer on military conflicts and Indian history.

Amarinder Singh’s writings are informed by his service in the Indian Army in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War and his royal Patiala heritage.

Adding a personal note, Rahul Gandhi smiled and said, "Hello, Uncle Amarinder!" The friendly comment quickly became one of the most widely shared moments from the Instagram session, with reactions across social media.

Amarinder Singh has a long political career. He served twice as the Chief Minister of Punjab under the Congress party as an Indian Army officer. He left the Congress party in 2021, after disagreements with the Congress leadership and founded the Punjab Lok Congress. In 2022, he joined BJP and his party was formally merged into the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Political analysts say Rahul Gandhi’s comments show the personal respect that leaders have for one another even if they are ideologically different.

Although some thought the comments were just an informal comment made in jest, others interpreted it as an effort to keep the political relations cordial ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

But no official statement has been issued linking the comments with any political initiative.

The Instagram AMA also highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to connect with younger voters. Students asked questions about employment, education reforms, governance, and the future of Indian politics.

The session took place during student activism on examination-related issues and political leaders were keen to make youth participation the focus of the session.

Narendra Modi has been using Instagram to communicate with younger people in recent months in an interactive manner with reels, interactive sessions, and digital campaigns. Rahul Gandhi’s AMA is an indication of how social media is becoming a big part of politics in India, especially for the new generation of voters and Gen Z.

The candid conversation and Gandhi’s unexpected choice of favourite BJP leader have also made it one of the most discussed political moments online, and digital platforms are changing public engagement in Indian politics.
