The Prime Minister had stressed the emotional bond with Raksha Bandhan, which the government of India has recognized for many years and said it was important that the relationship of love and trust will be strong and good for people to have.

“Heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” Modi said in his post. And he said he hoped the sacred festival will bring happiness, prosperity and success to all the people's lives and that we should be able to keep our bond of love, affection and trust.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, wished his fellow citizens a good morning. Shah said Raksha Bandhan is one of the most sacred festivals for brothers and sisters to celebrate together as they have unbreakable love and trust with each other.

President Droupadi Murmu had sent her greetings to citizens on the eve of Raksha Bandhan. She described the deep ties between the festival and Indian culture and traditions in her message.

Murmu said Raksha Bandhan has been an integral part of Indian culture since ancient times. The rakhi tied around the wrist with faith is a sacred bond of protection, she said. She also emphasized that the festival is important for a lot of our family members and that it is evidence of them.
The President stressed that relationships are based on trust, sensitivity and cooperation. Raksha Bandhan is a tradition for sisters to tie rakhis to their brothers’ wrists but the festival is also a source of warmth, respect and mutual responsibility between siblings, families, friends and communities.
Murmu told citizens to use the occasion to strengthen bonds between families and communities. She also linked togetherness in Raksha Bandhan to an India that is developed in a more cohesive way and would be able to work toward that goal.
The festival was also celebrated by political leaders and state governments in public as well through public celebrations and efforts. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated Raksha Bandhan with schoolchildren on Thursday. Girls tied rakhis on her wrists and made it a celebration of love and community bonding.
Gupta was on social media sharing the details of the celebration, she said she spent time with kids from different parts of Delhi. She said children were enthusiastic, laughing, and having conversations at the festival and she hoped that the children would still have opportunities to pursue their dreams.
In Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced a special initiative for Jeevika Didis on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The state government announced a plan to connect the homes of nearly 10 lakh Jeevika Didis with solar energy under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar scheme.
Choudhary said solar panels would be installed in their homes and this is to ensure that household electricity costs are brought down and to create new sources of income using solar energy. He said it is a step towards self-reliance, clean energy and a better future for Jeevika families.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also announced a special development initiative coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. All road and infrastructure projects in the constituencies of women legislators will be given a special development grant of Rs 28 crore for road and infrastructure, he said.
Under the initiative, 14 women legislators in Gujarat Legislative Assembly will each receive Rs 2 crore for development works in their respective constituencies. There are nine women MLAs representing urban constituencies and five representing rural areas.
The grants will be used for road and other infrastructure development based on local priorities and requirements. The initiative gives a development dimension to the festive occasion, with the government linking the special allocation to infrastructure needs in constituencies represented by women legislators.
Raksha Bandhan is still observed in India as sibling bonding and responsibility, even if we cannot tie the rakhi.
The country’s top leaders’ messages and celebrations and state governments’ announcements of Raksha Bandhan’s relevance in 2026 emphasized the festival’s broader significance. Personal relationships and family traditions and community initiatives and public welfare measures were all again at the heart of the festival, the theme of protection, affection and togetherness.
