The accident happened in Kanakapura Rural Police Station on the busy Ramanagara-Kanakapura stretch that is so frequently used by commuters, students and commercial vehicles travelling between Bengaluru South district and surrounding areas.

According to initial reports, a private college bus carrying students was travelling along the road when a car collided with it near Anajawadi village. The crash was so severe that the front of the car was destroyed.

The car driver suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. The driver was said to be in hospital. The driver’s condition is closely monitored by medical staff.

Several other female students who were on the college bus also suffered minor injuries due to the impact. There are no deaths, and the injuries suffered by students are said to be non-life-threatening. The injured students were treated and sent to medical care following the incident.

Witnesses at the scene said heavy rains hit the road and made it slick and visibility difficult for the drivers. The wet road conditions could have caused the accident, although police are looking into the accident and are investigating, the official said.

The collision caused traffic to be affected by the Ramanagara-Kanakapura Road because emergency personnel and local authorities had to clear the damaged vehicles from the road. Police showed up at the site of the accident soon after and managed rescue efforts.

In Karnataka, road accidents during the monsoon season are a major issue, as rain is a very common issue in Karnataka, where visibility and driving are affected, and vehicle control is often compromised. In this monsoon season, drivers need to be slow, stay away from other vehicles and drive cautiously on wet roads; drivers should take the road and be very safe,” they say.

Some areas of Ramanagara-Kanakapura Road are particularly hazardous in heavy rain, residents say. They have urged the authorities to improve road safety measures, put up some additional warning signs and maintain road surfaces in order to avoid this from happening again in the future.

Police officials would be looking at the conditions of the vehicle, the road conditions and witness accounts while investigating, they said. Speed, driver error or mechanical issues could also be involved in the collision, authorities said.

It is another reminder of the necessity of safe driving practices during bad weather. No deaths have been reported so far, but the severe injuries of the car driver in the accident are a reminder of the dangers to drivers in rain-related accidents.

As the investigation continues, authorities have appealed to motorists to remain vigilant during the ongoing monsoon season and prioritise road safety to avoid preventable accidents.
