A Lamborghini allegedly owned by Ricky Rai, son of late underworld figure and businessman Muthappa Rai, has once again landed in controversy after a viral video appeared on social media showing the luxury supercar being driven at high speed on Bengaluru’s Airport Road.
The video, which has been widely viewed online, appears to show the Lamborghini speeding up and emitting loud exhaust noises and flames from its exhaust system. The video has raised concerns about reckless driving and violations of motor vehicle rules.
The vehicle involved is said to be KA 05 NR 0009, and it is owned by Ricky Rai. The viral images show the supercar moving along a public road at excessive speed and making loud sounds that disturbed other drivers and road users.
Police officials have also taken note of the circulating video and have begun a preliminary verification process. The footage and technical evidence should be reviewed, and the evidence gathered by authorities before the case is filed.
Investigators are still trying to piece together some of the details, such as when the video was filmed, who was driving the car at the time, and if the vehicle was being operated in violation of traffic and motor vehicle laws. Officials must also confirm whether the car’s exhaust system had been modified, which could have caused the loud noise and visible flames in the footage.
The latest controversy comes just months after the same Lamborghini was involved in another high-profile incident. The luxury car was also the subject of a police investigation in March regarding drifting and dangerous driving around Kumara Krupa Circle and Cubbon Road in Bengaluru.
Ricky Rai had denied he was driving the car, but investigators looked through CCTV footage and other evidence that indicated he had been behind the wheel during the incident. At the Cubbon Park Police Station, they registered a First Information Report (FIR).
The case became a topic of debate for a long time after the legal argument of Ricky Rai in the case was that the vehicle veered because of road conditions and not because of intentional drifting. The explanation for drifting was widely dismissed, particularly when video of the incident was made public. The vehicle owner did eventually pay the court-ordered penalty.
Now, with another video of the same Lamborghini going viral, authorities are once again looking into whether traffic laws have been violated.
They will be assessing several possible offences outlined in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. These may include speeding, dangerous driving, unauthorised vehicle modifications, excessive noise emissions, and exhaust systems that produce flames or do not comply with the prescribed standards.
Driving high-performance vehicles at excessive speeds can put not only drivers but also pedestrians and other road users in danger, road safety experts have repeatedly warned. Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases accident rates dramatically, especially in large urban areas.
Police sources say that a decision will be taken after verification. Video evidence will likely be collected, the driver of the vehicle identified, and, if necessary, it will be determined whether any laws were violated.
As the inquiry continues, the viral footage has reignited discussion on road safety, responsible driving, and traffic laws in Bengaluru for luxury and high-performance cars.
