Cases on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway have again cast doubt on whether commuters are safe: A Sunday evening robbery took place in which armed robbers robbed a private company worker near Maddur of Rs 26 lakh.
Govindraju is a private company employee with an office in Mysuru, where he was hit. He was in a car from Mysuru to Bengaluru and taking money from a different business. The incidents occurred at approximately 7 p.m. in the evening, when he was tasked with carrying cash from Mysuru via Indian Express roads heading to Bengaluru, the police said.
Investigators said the suspects followed Govindraju, a Toyota Innova driver, inside this vehicle for a while before committing the heist. The gang reportedly blocked the victim’s route on the expressway at Aishwarya Convent, near Maddur, and impounded what we understand as the victim’s vehicle.
The intruder then broke the car window and threatened Govindraju with lethal weapons and robbed him of cash to Rs 26 lakh, the police said. The gang escaped in the Innova vehicle by the time of the intrusion. At that point, the victim went to the Maddur police and said to them that the robbery had occurred.
Circle Inspector H. S. Naveen brought in the police department and quickly inspected the area where the crime had happened. They have a case and are already investigating,’ they said. Police teams are also combing surveillance at toll plazas, neighbours' nearby businesses, highway vehicles, and CCTV cameras.
The police believe the person carrying out the crime and Innova car on the run, and the said car is moving through the area, and the investigation of the Innova vehicle (which is carrying the crime they are tracking) is underway. Detectives think robbery was likely planned; they’re also to see if they knew cash was being taken out of town,” he said.
The suspect meticulously pursued identifying the victim and pursued him for an isolated stretch to carry out the crimes, they said. The incident triggered new alarm systems for motorists driving along the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. The area has recently experienced a series of robberies and thefts during the past several months.
But some corners of the road continue to attract heavy complaints from travellers about faulty night patrol and security policies. V.J. Shobharani, a special breed of law enforcement officials with investigative experience, has been formed that will help find and arrest the suspect.
They said law enforcement officials are also attempting to verify that there has been no previous robbery on the road by the group. They’ve also ordered anyone with massive amounts of money or valuables to move them away to arrange to lock themselves up and not drive at night alone. They’re also looking into how to tighten policing and traffic on the expressway.
All the cases already mentioned, this case once again shows the 'organised highway crime' and is one of the major complaints against Karnataka, and urgent measures that would be required for better safety and greater security efficiency are essential for both transport corridors and especially commutes on those routes.
