At about 3:00 am, the accident took place around the IC-80 interchange on the Samruddhi Expressway, the police said.

Truck Crashes into Stationary Car

The container of ethanol had previously been overturned near the interchange, and some traffic in the lane was blocked. A car was stopped around the area where it happened, police said.

A truck speeding along the expressway failed to stop and crashed into the stationary car from behind. There was a fire as soon as the two vehicles crashed into each other.

The intensity of the fire left little chance to escape, and all six people in the car died.

Ethanol Spill Complicated Rescue Operation

The overturned ethanol container significantly increased the danger at the site of the accident, the officials said.

Because ethanol is so flammable, rescue teams and firefighters had to proceed with great caution while extinguishing the fire and clearing the wreckage to ensure safety. Emergency personnel worked very carefully to avoid any secondary explosions or other fire hazards.

Traffic Disrupted for Hours

The accident caused huge traffic congestion on the Samruddhi Expressway, and vehicle movement was affected for several hours.

Police diverted traffic and regulated movement while fire services, highway authorities, and rescue teams performed recovery operations. The damaged vehicles were only removed after the fire was completely brought under control.

The accident site was declared safe, and normal traffic resumed.

Investigation Underway

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the reason for the collision.

Several factors are being investigated, such as:

  • The sequence of events following the overturned ethanol container.
  • Whether warning signs and traffic diversions were sufficient.
  • The speed of the truck before the collision.
  • Visibility and road conditions at the time of the accident.
  • CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.

The truck will also be inspected, and the driver’s records will be examined as part of the investigation.

Renewed Focus on Expressway Safety

We have been reminded again and again that road safety is very much a concern, especially on high-speed expressways.

Experts emphasize that drivers should be attentive to accident scenes, maintain safe following distances, and reduce speed when emergency situations or road obstructions are encountered.

As a result, they say rapid warnings, effective traffic management, and highway safety protocols are needed to reduce the likelihood of secondary accidents.

The identities of the victims will be released upon identification and notification of the families. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the current investigation, the authorities said.
