Jantar Mantar Assault Row: Cockroach Janta Party has intensified its attack over a viral video of Swantantra Bhardwaj, while Bhardwaj claimed that the clip was edited and his remarks were taken out of context.
The political storm over the alleged assault of Nishu Aazad’s father, Sanjay Kumar, in Jantar Mantar intensified on Friday when Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called for action against self-styled influencer Swantantra Bhardwaj. The party also asked PM Modi if Delhi Police will take any action against Bhardwaj after the circulation of a viral video.
On the video in which Bhardwaj is heard making claims about allegedly assaulting Nishu Aazad’s father. He talks about hitting Sanjay Kumar and the seriousness of the injuries allegedly suffered by him. This has opened a political battle and the CJP has accused the police of not taking any serious action.
In a post on social media, the CJP directly addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioned whether Delhi Police would arrest Bhardwaj for the claims made by him. The party also said that the comments made in the video were worthy of investigation and called for accountability in the case.
The controversy was only fuelled by Bhardwaj’s references to political power in the context of the incident. In the viral video, he is heard mentioning Delhi minister Kapil Mishra and Union minister Chirag Paswan, and claiming to have the support of several political leaders. Opposition parties and critics were shocked that political leadership had an impact on the handling of the case.
The CJP has announced that leaders will go to the Parliament Street Police Station on Friday to demand action. Nishu Aazad said she would be with her father at the police station. Saurav Das, the CJP spokesman, has demanded that Bhardwaj be taken into account and questioned the role of Kapil Mishra. The party has also sought an attempt-to-murder charge in the case.
Swantantra Bhardwaj Says Viral Video Was Edited
Bhardwaj has denied the interpretation of the viral video and claimed that the recording was edited before it was made public. Speaking to Times Now, he said the last part of his remarks had been taken off, changing the context of what he said.
According to Bhardwaj, he had referred to claims spreading about a phone call involving Kapil Mishra in a sarcastic manner. He has maintained that he was not saying that Kapil Mishra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, or any other political leader had intervened to secure his release.
Bhardwaj also said the portion removed from the video included his comments on Modi, Chirag Paswan, and Kapil Mishra being respected senior figures and his support for their work. He said the edited video had made it appear that he was connecting political leaders directly with the Jantar Mantar incident.
He also told us that the legal process had already taken place and that the investigation was going on.
Bhardwaj Claims He Acted In Self-Defence
Bhardwaj has also given his version of the Jantar Mantar confrontation, claiming he acted in self-defence after being surrounded by a crowd.
According to his account, he was recorded and confronted by a man whose identity and connection to Nishu Aazad were not known to him at the time. He said the situation got worse when a crowd surrounded him in the presence of Delhi Police.
Bhardwaj claimed he was pushed towards a dustbin and that there appeared to be an attempt to physically attack him. His actions were to protect himself and escape what he described as a dangerous encounter, he said.
He has suggested that people watch the whole video available on social media before making conclusions on the incident. Bhardwaj has also told us that he does not regret his actions.
Delhi Police Rejects Claims Of Serious Injury
Delhi Police has presented a different account of the incident and rejected some of the claims happening online. Sanjay Kumar suffered a head injury during a scuffle involving a kada, according to police. He was later medically examined at RML Hospital.

Police described the injuries as simple and rejected claims that the medical examination established a skull fracture. There was no weapon used, they also said.
Bhardwaj and another person, Suraj Kumar, were detained and served notices. They were questioned on the matter and legal proceedings were initiated. A chargesheet would be filed as part of the legal process, police said.
Delhi Police has also denied that political influence or undue pressure affected the handling of the case.
As the CJP is about to go to Parliament Street Police Station with Nishu Aazad and her father, the Jantar Mantar assault controversy is likely to remain a hot-button issue. The CJP is calling for more serious action against Bhardwaj, but he maintains that the viral video has been edited and his comments have been presented without their original context.
