A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 28-year-old motorcyclist in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district early Monday. The victim, Veeresh, of Gadikoppa in Shivamogga, died at the scene after his motorcycle was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle near Ayanur in the early hours of the morning.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of Bhairanakoppa village of Veeragarana under the jurisdiction of the Kumsi Police Station. Police have registered a hit-and-run case and a search is now on to find the driver and vehicle.
Fatal collision in the early hours
According to preliminary evidence, Veeresh was travelling on his motorcycle when an unknown vehicle rammed into him on the road near Ayanur. The collision was said to have thrown the motorcycle off the road and led to severe injuries.
Police said the victim had suffered a serious head injury due to the force of the crash. Although they were able to give him immediate help, the injuries were fatal, and Veeresh died before medical help could arrive.
The unidentified vehicle involved in the collision did not stop after the crash. Instead, the driver fled, and the incident was turned into a hit-and-run case, police said.
Police begin investigation
Based on the information about the accident, officers from the Kumsi Police Station rushed to the site and conducted a preliminary inspection immediately. The body was recovered from the accident site and later shifted for post-mortem examination as part of the legal formalities.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation to identify the offending vehicle. CCTV footage from nearby roads will be examined, eyewitness accounts will be collected, and physical evidence from the accident site will be analyzed to locate the absconding driver.
Officials have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that will help identify the vehicle involved in the crash.
