A major fire accident was reported late at night in a 4-storey building in the Sudhama Nagar area of Bangalore. A massive fire rapidly spread through the building, and much of the building and its contents were reduced to ash as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit, according to preliminary information. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the authorities. Fire and emergency service personnel arrived on scene soon after receiving the report and quickly extinguished the fire.
The ground floor of the building housed commercial businesses such as helmet and mobile phone shops. The businesses would have been the worst affected as the fire erupted and spread rapidly. The stores, accessories and stock were all totally destroyed, so all the valuable items, electronic devices, accessories, and stock were all gone. Outside the building, smoke and fire could be seen.
The upper floors of the building were used as residential units. Residents evacuated the building as soon as they saw smoke and flames. Residents ran out of the building in panic, fearing the fire could spread to other buildings, eyewitnesses said.
Firefighters used many vehicles and equipment to fight the fire. The fire spread to the commercial shops because of combustible materials inside, and it was difficult to fight in the commercial buildings. But emergency response teams were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings and avoid a major disaster to those buildings that would have occurred in the very crowded area.
Residents gathered around as firefighters battled the fire for several hours. Police were also on the scene to control traffic and assist with rescue efforts. The fire crews’ presence and police helped to calm people who were at the scene, keep the fire burning and traffic moving in and control the roads and help with rescue efforts, officials confirmed later.
The incident once more raised the question of electrical safety and fire protection in residential and commercial buildings. The site should be thoroughly examined, and the damage done to the buildings will be assessed by the authorities.
The financial losses will be considerable, but without loss of life, the residents and the authorities would be grateful. A detailed investigation of the cause of the fire will be concluded in the next few weeks.
The Sudhama Nagar fire is a reminder of the need for regular electrical inspections, adherence to fire safety norms, and emergency preparedness in commercial and residential establishments.
