In an important step in improving healthcare infrastructure, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. S. Joseph Vijay, on 20 May 2026 handed over the keys of 40 new vehicles to drivers at the Secretariat.
Worth ₹2.90 crore, these vehicles have been allocated for the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services, in line with the drive to make movement and efficiency in the state’s delivery of healthcare accessible in a more seamless manner.
The Chief Minister personally flagged off the vehicles after starting them, which had been a point of pride of the government’s efforts to improve rural and institutional health services. That will make the process easier for us with these vehicles quickly in service, we will be on point and accessible to all the medical staff present throughout Tamil Nadu. Healthcare officials said they would deploy the vehicles in a strategically organized manner among districts, specifically among under-served rural areas.
This action is in order to improve outreach initiatives, facilitate moving patients and assist emergency medical service delivery. The Directorate can assure the healthcare facilities are still connected, and responsive to the needs of the people by adding to the fleet. The initiative also echoes the government’s overall goal to update public health infrastructure.
Tamil Nadu has been among the top states for delivery of health services, so the introduction of such vehicles speaks to the administration’s priority of accessibility, in terms of efficiency and in fostering the health in rural parts of the state. The Chief Minister pointed out, ‘Measures like these [are] necessary to bridge gaps between urban and rural health systems’.
That progress has won over doctors and people, and makes a positive difference to the quality of care in the hospitals, PHCs and mobile units. Moving Forward In investment in mobility solutions,
