Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Opposition in Bihar, has strongly criticised the state government on Monday for the suspension of Bihar Police personnel who were seen firing an AK-47 in a viral video.
Tejashwi Yadav also told the media in Patna that he was reassured that no action would be taken against protesting students, that all cases against them would be withdrawn, and that all those arrested would be released.

Questioning the police response, Tejashwi said: “JP Nadda himself had said in Delhi that no action would be taken against students, all cases against them would be withdrawn, and those arrested would be released. Then the question is, why was an AK-47 used in Bihar?"
He also claimed that the viral footage showed the weapon was aimed at protesting students rather than criminals and described the situation as very disturbing. “The video shows that the weapon was aimed not at criminals but at protesting students. Fortunately, the three students survived,” he said.
The comments followed the suspension of Bihar Police officers on the basis of the incident. The police are investigating what is alleged to have happened with the weapon used during the protests, and the suspension is just an administrative procedure and does not establish culpability.
Tejashwi Yadav also claimed that during the demonstrations, students in Bihar were subjected to excessive police action. Protesters were lathi-charged, detained, and booked in what he said was a series of false cases.
"Students across Bihar were lathi-charged, detained, and booked in what we believe are false cases," the RJD leader said, accusing the BJP of failing to fulfil its promises to the protesting students.
He also claimed that the BJP leadership had not been implementing the assurances, adding that the public had lost confidence in the promises made by the ruling party. “The BJP has failed to honour its assurances, and people no longer trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Tejashwi alleged.
Bihar’s student protests have become a major political issue with the ruling alliance and the Opposition accusing each other of the way demonstrations are handled and the government’s response to the students’ demands.
On the other hand, the Bihar Police have launched an investigation into the viral video of the suspended personnel. Video footage needs to be reviewed, witness statements collected, and whether standard operating procedures were followed during the protest.
We have not yet received the results of the inquiry, and we still do not know why the weapon was discharged. But if we get any action, it would be in line with the investigation.
The controversy has triggered a political debate in Bihar, with the Opposition demanding accountability while the government maintains that the matter is being examined through due process.
