Tejashwi Yadav Held in Patna Protest Over Bihar Exam Leaks, Jobs Crisis and Police Action

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav was arrested in Patna following a large protest march against alleged examination paper leaks, rising unemployment and police action against students in Bihar on Wednesday. A majority of RJD workers and supporters were in the state today with the protesters raising concerns about how the state and job seekers are affected and the job market is not getting better and students and job seekers are not getting opportunities.

The protest was mainly focused on allegations of irregularities in competitive examinations and the demand for greater transparency in the recruitment and examination process. Yadav, who has repeatedly raised the concerns of young people in Bihar, used the demonstration to target the state government over failures to protect the interests of students and unemployed youth.

The situation got more volatile when protesters attempted to push through police barricades that were placed on the route. Water cannons were deployed by the police to prevent the demonstrators from going further. Yadav, the protest’s leader, was arrested in the state capital, after the demonstrations took place.

Yadav claimed the government was doing injustice and said his party would continue to raise issues concerning students and unemployed people. The RJD leader’s participation injected a strong political dimension to the demonstration, with the protest turning into an all-out struggle between the opposition and state government over governance, employment and accountability.

The police used an AK-47 at one young student demonstration in Siwan, which has also raised questions about the level of force used by the police in dealing with student protests. RJD leaders want to hold the police to account and a thorough investigation of what happened with the rifle to look into what went wrong.

RJD MP Misa Bharti also joined the protest and demanded answers from the authorities on the Siwan incident. She questioned the circumstances under which an AK-47 was used during the student demonstration and sought accountability from those responsible. The issue gained more emphasis when the government supposedly admitted in court that the rifle had been used.

After the controversy, a constable was suspended pending an inquiry. The suspension has further complicated the political atmosphere and opposition politicians have said that the episode needs a full investigation, not just limited disciplinary action.

The RJD’s goal has been to frame the protest as part of a wider movement for student rights, jobs and transparency in government examinations. For the party, paper leaks and irregularities are a big political issue because competitive examinations are so closely linked to employment opportunities for thousands of young people.

The protest also underlines the growing political significance of unemployment in Bihar. With government jobs attracting intense competition, examination-related controversies can affect candidates who spend months to even years preparing for recruitment tests. So the question paper leak or procedural glitches might make aspirants feel insecure and frustrated.

Water cannons and the arrest of Yadav will heighten the political conflict between the RJD and Bihar government and will further intensify the political tension between the Bihar government and Yadav. Opposition leaders will continue to press the government for answers regarding the handling of student protests and how students are being treated and the steps taken to prevent examination-related irregularities.

As for Tejashwi Yadav and RJD, the Patna demonstration also offers an opportunity to unite students and unemployed youth. The party is attempting to present itself as a political voice for young people facing difficulties in getting education and job opportunities by linking demands related to examination transparency with concerns over unemployment and police action.

The developments have once again placed students’ grievances and recruitment examinations at the heart of Bihar’s political conversation. The government’s response to the allegations, the investigation of the Siwan incident and the response to future student demonstrations will be closely watched.

At the same time, it has said that the RJD should keep raising the issue of exam transparency, unemployment and student rights. Yadav’s arrest during the Patna protest only demonstrated the division between the opposition and the government on how demonstrations and student grievances should be dealt with.
