In a major step towards transparency in education, the Telangana government has ordered all private schools in the state to outline their fee structure for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year in a transparent manner. Schools must publish financial information on their own notice boards or on their official websites in an official manner to make this financial data easier to access by the public, and they are required to upload these records on the official web portal of the Telangana School Education Department to provide the parents with the best accountability and the best level of accessibility in the admissions process.
Looking at this policy, state Director of School Education E Naveen Nicolas said the goal is that parents and students can easily access and verify the total fee that private unaided schools charge without any hidden costs or sudden increases. District-level education officials and administrators have been instructed to communicate these compliance conditions down to every private unaided school in their jurisdiction and not to leave the state’s demands open to interpretation.
To meet the mandate, school managements need to provide class-wise fee breakdowns on three platforms: the prominent notice board on the school premises, the official school website, and the state education portal at schooledu.telangana.gov.in. The department has made a specific function in its portal that will facilitate the digital submission of the fees. Schools must submit all the supporting documents and official records that were used to calculate and determine the fee structure for the 2026-27 academic term in addition to inputting the numbers.
To ensure authenticity and prevent arbitrary pricing, the education department has stated that the supporting documents uploaded must contain the signatures of all members of the school’s governing body. The whole calculation and documentation process must follow the relevant legal provisions and regulations which were laid out in the Government Order of 1994.
The Telangana School Education Department has also given a stern warning about strict disciplinary measures as such institutions fail to comply and ignore these directives. Regional Joint Directors of School Education as well as District Educational Officers could immediately issue formal show-cause notices to any school that does not display its fee structure correctly on notice boards and websites. The state has also made it clear that further punitive actions will be taken against non-compliant institutions in strict accordance with the provisions outlined in the 1994 Government Order, showing a zero-tolerance approach to unauthorized fee practices.
