A government doctor was assaulted by an angry mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district after the SUV he was driving collided with a cow on the Moradabad-Farrukhabad highway. Violence erupted near Bichpuri village as the animal died in the collision and a crowd gathered around the vehicle and attacked the doctor.
With the help of information on the web, Dr. Siddharth Rahul Siddharth is associated with the Usawan Community Health Centre where he works as a medical officer. He was travelling in a Scorpio SUV when the cow was hit on the highway. The animal died and people dispersed on the ground and were angry.
Witnesses and preliminary accounts said that members of the crowd had pulled the doctor out of his SUV and attacked him. His clothes were reported to have been torn. The mob had also damaged the vehicle and tried to overturn it as the tension rose. The situation was serious enough for police to intervene and save the doctor from the crowd.
So police took control of the situation and began investigating both the road accident and assault. Police are also investigating whether the doctor had drunk alcohol before driving. But such claims have not been confirmed just from evidence on the scene, and investigators are expected to review all available evidence before making a conclusion.
