Two alleged hitmen linked to the Rashid Cablewala gang were arrested after an exchange of fire with Delhi Police in northeast Delhi's Usmanpur area early Monday, October 5.
The suspects are 23-year-old Mohammad Kaif and Mohammad Jaseem, both from northeast Delhi's Welcome area, according to police. They opened fire when a Special Staff team arrived at the site and was trying to arrest them, said Chief Prabhu Kumar.
The suspects suffered bullet wounds to their legs and were taken to hospital for treatment. Police arrested both men.
28 Bullets Exchanged
According to Hindustan Times, police officials said 28 bullets were exchanged between the two suspects and the police team.
The report said the duo fired 12 bullets, and police retaliated during the encounter. Most significantly, one bullet fired by each suspect struck the bulletproof vest of two police officers.
The two officers escaped without injury because of their protective gear. The suspects had bullet wounds to their legs.
However, some other reports, including Times of India and ANI-related coverage, put the total exchange at around 26 rounds. The difference appears to be in the initial police account reported by different outlets.

Police Laid a Trap
As Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Rahul Alwal said, the police investigation began after unidentified assailants allegedly fired at least five bullets at the house of a businessman in Bhajanpura on October 2.
The businessman had received extortion calls but had not initially informed police about them, he said.
Investigators used technical surveillance and field intelligence to find the suspects behind the firing. Police later learned that the two men would be traveling through a forested route in the Usmanpur area.
A trap was then laid to intercept them.
Both Suspects Injured and Arrested
Police said the suspects opened fire upon being seen by the Special Staff team, and the Special Staff team retaliated in response.
Kaif and Jaseem both sustained bullet injuries to their legs. They were taken to hospital, where they received medical treatment before being placed under arrest.
The incident is now being further investigated, including the suspects' alleged involvement in the Bhajanpura firing and their possible links with organized criminal networks.
