Schools in Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar district will remain closed on Monday, August 10, 2026, with heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast in some parts of the state. This is a precautionary action taken to protect students and staff as the weather is getting bad out there,” schools in the district will be closed, the school chief said.
According to the weather warning, educational institutions up to Class 12 in Bageshwar have been directed to remain closed for the day. The move comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast intense spells of rainfall at isolated locations and thunderstorms and lightning.
The weather department has issued an orange alert for four districts of Uttarakhand - Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some places in these areas. Some places could also experience extremely intense spells of rain, which would cause waterlogging, road disruption and other weather-related hazards.
The IMD district forecast has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells of rain at isolated points in the four districts. Such conditions can be very dangerous, especially in hilly areas where heavy rainfall can trigger landslides, falling debris and temporary road blockages.
Schools closed as Safety Precaution
