Emotions were high on the site of the five-storey building collapse near Delhi’s Saket locality as relatives of those feared trapped pleaded for help and information at the site of the building collapse when rescue operations were not yet over.
A distressed family member argued that authorities had not been forthcoming with clear information about the fate of their loved ones.
"The police are here, but we are asking about our family members, and there is no response," said the relative speaking to media personnel at the scene. "Local people were handling the situation better than the police. They rescued three people, but the police only rescued two people."
The family members were left waiting for information as the rescue teams searched the rubble, the victim said in frustration.
"No one has a clear answer to my questions. What is freedom of speech?" the relative continued, adding, “As families gather around the disaster site, I see the sense of frustration rising in the eyes of a family that’s sitting in the midst of sadness."
The family member said there were earlier concerns about the safety of the building that had been raised but not responded to.
"The building was being built at a risk, and we also complained,” the person said, suggesting that warnings about the condition of the building may have been ignored before the collapse.

The relative broke down when talking about being unable to reach a trapped family member as rescue efforts continued.
"I want to see my mother, but they are not allowing me to go outside," the individual said, reflecting the emotional toll the incident has taken on affected families.
For the rest of the day, rescue teams from disaster response agencies, police, and fire services are clearing the rubble and searching for survivors. So far, they've cordoned off the area to allow rescue efforts and ensure public safety.
Officials are not yet certain of the number of people trapped or what caused the collapse. Structural and safety concerns of the building and any safety violations that could be identified as the cause of the collapse are to be examined.
Anxious relatives continue to search for information about their loved ones as they hold out for answers regarding the tragedy.
