In Chilkalguda, Secunderabad, a 33-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly attacking her mother-in-law with a kitchen knife in her family home, police said.
According to police, D. Vijayalakshmi attempted to murder her mother-in-law in a heated argument, they said. Police said the woman in question was in the family’s home when the two had a heated fight.
Vijayalakshmi picked up a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed her mother-in-law, investigators said in a police investigation that left the elderly woman with multiple injuries.
Family members and neighbors, who were alerted by the commotion, rushed to the victim’s aid and informed the police and emergency services immediately.
The injured woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she is now in treatment. But doctors are monitoring her condition and authorities have not disclosed the extent of her injuries.

After the complaint, Chilkalguda Police came to the scene, collected evidence and arrested Vijayalakshmi. The kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was seized as part of the investigation.
Police have registered the case of attempt to murder under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigation into the sequence of events and motive behind the attack is ongoing by investigators investigating the accused and other family members.
The family was found to have been in domestic disputes at the time of the violent confrontation, but it was not determined what could be the cause of the alleged assault, the police said.

Police have said citizens should seek legal or counseling help when family disputes are so severe that they need to be resolved in court rather than resorting to violence. The investigation is ongoing and officials will have to record statements from witnesses and medical personnel as part of the case. Law enforcement actions will be taken if the victim’s medical condition allows and evidence collected during the investigation is available.
