Sakshi Chaudhary had a great performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, winning the 51kg women’s quarterfinal and at least a bronze medal for the country. With supreme tactical and ring smarts, Sakshi dominated Northern Ireland’s Caitlyn Fryers in the quarter-final with a 5-0 unanimous decision victory. Having been in the event for 4 years before and made the transition back to her 51kg weight class in the first round, Sakshi was constantly putting pressure on her opponent from the first round onwards.
She was able to take over with her footwork, angles, and combinations at all three rounds to get her through the judges' scorecards and to the gold medal match. The confident Indian is in a high-stakes semifinal with Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall on Friday and she’s ready to get that gold medal match.
Sakshi’s success is a huge morale boost for Indian boxing players, which has been a very successful event at the Glasgow games. The momentum generated by her success will also propel a number of upcoming Indian athletes to the ring for quarterfinal matchups. Arundhati Choudhary will be in the women’s 70kg category with New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson in the coming week and Sachin Siwach will contend with Botswana’s Treasure Moremi in the men’s 60kg category.
Ankush Yadav will be in the mix against Seychelles’ Jade Micock in the men’s 80kg category and Narender Berwal will meet Samoa’s Michael Seko in the men’s 90kg quarterfinal. With India having already won a high number of medals in Glasgow in both sports (gold, silver, and bronze), these boxing competitions will only boost the country to even more medal count.
