Police in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district seized ₹4 crore in cash from a pickup vehicle in a late-night checking operation, raising questions over where the money was coming from and where it was supposed to go. Two people in the vehicle have been detained for questioning and details of the matter are being pieced together.
The seizure took place on the night of October 25, 2026, in the Dabrapara area under the jurisdiction of Khursipar Police Station. The incident was reported on October 26 by some news media.
₹4 crore found during vehicle checking
According to reports, Khursipar police received information that a large amount of cash was being transported in a pickup vehicle. Police began checking vehicles in the area.
During the operation, officers stopped a pickup that was going from Raipur to Nagpur. A detailed inspection of the vehicle led police to discover a concealed compartment in the rear section.
The compartment contained a huge amount of Indian currency. After counting the recovered cash, officials found that the total amount was ₹4 crore.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shobhraj Agrawal said that the recovery was done in conjunction with a vehicle-checking operation under Khursipar Police Station limits. The investigation is now focused on why such a large amount of cash was being transported and who owns it.
Secret Compartment Concealed in Pickup
One of the key aspects of the case is the concealed space inside the vehicle. Reports indicate that the rear portion of the pickup had been modified to make a compartment in which the cash was hidden.
Police are reviewing the vehicle and investigating the circumstances of how the money got out. Investigators are also trying to see if the people inside had the documents to explain the cash’s origin and movement.
#WATCH | Durg, Chhattisgarh: Rs 4 crore in cash seized from pickup vehicle in Durg. Additional SP Shobhraj Agrawal says, "During a vehicle check, under the jurisdiction of the Khursipar Police Station, information was received that a large sum of money was being transported in a white pickup truck. The vehicle was intercepted and searched; it was occupied by a driver and one other individual. While the vehicle appeared empty upon initial inspection and preliminary questioning, a thorough search revealed a specially constructed, modified compartment at the rear. A total of Rs 4 crore was recovered from this compartment. Both individuals are currently being questioned regarding the source of the funds and their intended destination. The Income Tax Department has also been notified. Further action will be taken by the Income Tax Department based on the information that emerges regarding the origin of the money and its intended destination. Two People Detained for Questioning
Police detained the two occupants of the pickup for questioning. Their statements and other evidence to be provided to investigators will help to shed light on the circumstances of the delivery of the money.
Authorities are now looking for the actual owner of the money and where it came from. The cash was in a concealed compartment, so it is a part of the investigation, but it does not by itself prove that a crime was committed.
Possible Hawala Link Under Investigation
Some reports have suggested a hawala connection. This is a line of investigation, however, and officials have not publicly said that the cash was linked to illegal financial transactions.
The Income Tax Department is also to be informed so that the financial source of the seized amount can be examined. Further investigation may clarify whether the money was connected to a legitimate transaction or an unlawful activity.
Police are still investigating the ₹4 crore seizure in Durg. Further information is expected once investigators know who is behind the cash and where the cash is to go.
