Rahul Dravid's younger son Anvay Dravid has been selected for the Karnataka Under-19 team for the upcoming Vinoo Mankad Trophy and is now in a strong position to become the wicketkeeper-batter at home.
The appointment was reported on September 30, 2026, and PTI reported that the 17-year-old will lead Karnataka in the upcoming one day U-19 tournament.
Anvay Dravid gets Karnataka leadership role
Anvay, a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter, has been included in Karnataka's team as wicketkeeper for the tournament.
Karnataka will be in Elite Group E along with Gujarat, Jharkhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. The tournament will be played in Visakhapatnam from October 8 to 16.
The role of leader comes after Anvay has recently made his way into India’s Under-19 side where he has continued to attract attention for his batting performances.
Strong Recent run for India U-19
Anvay was part of India's Under-19 team for the team’s tour to Sri Lanka earlier this year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had included him as a wicketkeeper in the one-day squad announced in June.
He later appeared in India's three-match Youth ODI series against Australia in Rajkot. In the first match on September 18, Anvay played an important late-innings role with 38 from 18 balls as India beat Australia by seven runs in a rain-shortened match.
His aggressive innings included two fours and three sixes and helped India recover strongly after losing wickets in the middle overs.
Following The Dravid Cricketing Legacy
Anvay is the younger son of former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid, so his junior cricket career has attracted considerable attention.
His elder brother Samit Dravid had also represented India at the Under-19 level. Samit was selected for India's U-19 squad in 2024, but his progress was hampered by an injury.
Anvay’s own path includes Karnataka age-group cricket before earning opportunities with the India U-19 setup.
Karnataka Squad For Vinoo Mankad Trophy
The Karnataka team includes Anvay Dravid as wicketkeeper and Nitish Arya, Dhruv Krishnan, R Rohith Reddy, Aadharsh SJ, Sujay Korwar, Varun Patel, Aniketh Reddy, P Tejas Reddy and many of the young players.
The upcoming tournament will also give Anvay another opportunity to develop his leadership skills with the bat and behind the stumps.
What happens next?
Karnataka will start their Vinoo Mankad Trophy campaign in Visakhapatnam from October 8. With Anvay leading the side, how the young wicketkeeper-batter handles the added responsibility will be at the heart of the team.
