Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are changing coaching staff for IPL 2027 and the team’s coaching staff is a lot of people from the previous support team have gone and some of the old fans returning to the club. The change in the team’s coaching is a part of CSK’s new chapter under head coach Zaheer Khan as they begin the next chapter under the new direction of Zaheer Khan.
The most significant change is the departure of the batting coach Michael Hussey, who had a long association with the five-time IPL champions. Former CSK players Mohit Sharma and Albie Morkel are now part of the new coaching team as part of the homecoming. Gareth Batty, the former England spinner, is now assistant coach.
So with more changes being possible, CSK fans will be closely following the team's coaching for the next season.
CSK Coaching Staff Who Have Exited
Some of CSK’s previous coaching and support staff have resigned from the franchise as part of the restructuring.
- Michael Hussey – Batting Coach
- Eric Simons – Bowling Coach
- Rajiv Kumar – Assistant Coach
- James Foster – Fielding Coach
- Tommy Simsek – Physiotherapist
- Greg King – Trainer
The departure has brought a major change to the support team that worked with CSK for the last few years. It will now be up to the franchise to construct a new structure around Zaheer Khan and the incoming coaching staff.
Michael Hussey's exit: The biggest change
Michael Hussey's departure is especially significant as he had a long-standing association with CSK. Well known as Mr Cricket, the former Australian international joined the team as a player in the first season of IPL in 2008.
After his playing career with CSK, Hussey returned in 2018 to serve as batting coach. He got to know the team players and made it to the dugout with them in the team’s good campaigns.
His experience, calm presence, and understanding of the team’s culture made him one of the key support staff members. So his departure means the end of CSK’s coaching career.
But the franchise will need a suitable replacement to keep the same batting plan while new ideas will be taken into the dressing room.
New faces in the Zaheer Khan era
CSK will be bringing in new coaching personnel as Zaheer Khan leads the team.
- Mohit Sharma - Bowling Coach: The former India pacer returns to CSK in a coaching role after having represented the franchise as a player. He’s familiar with the team's environment, so his appointment is a homecoming.
- Albie Morkel - Assistant Coach: The former South African all-rounder is another familiar name in the Super Kings setup. With his reported return, it adds a second homecoming angle, and his batting and bowling experience may prove useful to the team.
- Gareth Batty - Assistant Coach: The former England spinner brings coaching experience from English domestic cricket, including his successful stint with Surrey.
CSK is attempting to reorganize its coaching program to make the IPL even more competitive with the appointments.

Mohit Sharma and Albie Morkel: Double Homecoming
Mohit and Morkel have both been associated with CSK as players, so their reported return is very interesting to supporters.
Mohit's abilities as a fast bowler could help CSK's bowling group, while Morkel's all-round skills and coaching experience could support departments in all areas. Their familiarity with the Super Kings environment may also allow them to settle into their roles.
But the final duties of each coach should be confirmed by the franchise's official announcements.

More Coaching Updates Expected
CSK’s coaching change comes after a poor IPL 2026 season in which the team finished eighth. The team will aim to be more consistent, develop players, and return to title contention under Zaheer Khan.
With Hussey and other staff members departing and Mohit Sharma, Albie Morkel, and Gareth Batty attached to the new setup, the coaching structure is taking shape.
More details are to be presented as CSK finalizes their support staff and prepares for IPL 2027.
