Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has made it clear that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will continue to host Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, asserting that shifting them elsewhere would be unacceptable.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) elections today, Shivakumar said: “We will not allow IPL matches to be shifted out of Chinnaswamy stadium. This is a question of Bengaluru and Karnataka’s pride. We will ensure IPL matches are held here.”
Reiterating his passion for the sport, he added: “I am a cricket fan. We will ensure that such incidents don’t recur in the future and uphold the reputation of the stadium.”
Looking ahead, Shivakumar also announced plans to build a new cricket stadium in Bengaluru as an alternative venue, strengthening the city’s cricketing infrastructure and ensuring that Karnataka remains a central hub for the sport.
His remarks underline a strong commitment to both preserving the legacy of Chinnaswamy Stadium and expanding opportunities for fans and players through new facilities.
