England are currently in control of the third and final test at Edgbaston, Birmingham after a dominant two days of cricket in the third and final test. With Pakistan ending Day 2 on 52/2, still 268 runs behind England, the hosts are in a strong position to complete a 3-0 series whitewash.
The match started on September 9 and Day 3 is set to resume with Pakistan needing a big batting effort just to take the game into the fourth day.
Day 1: Pakistan Collapse for 133
England won the toss and decided to bowl and the decision immediately paid dividends. Pakistan's batting line-up struggled against England's pace attack and was dismissed for just 133 runs.
Josh Tongue was the best bowler with 4/42 and Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer each took three wickets. Robinson also reached 100 Test wickets during Pakistan's collapse.
Saud Shakeel provided Pakistan’s best resistance with 43, but there was little support around him.
England lost early wickets and fell to 39/3 but Emilio Gay and Harry Brook rebuilt the innings. Gay scored 60 and Brook stayed unbeaten at 52 at stumps.
England finished day 1 on 156/4 with a 23-run first-innings lead.
Day 2: England Build a Huge Lead
On Day 2 England continued their aggressive batting and their modest overnight advantage turned into a commanding lead.
Harry Brook made a valuable 75 while Dan Lawrence scored 65 and Jamie Smith 69. Ollie Robinson then produced an all-round performance and scored 50 as England's lower order contributed big runs.
England were finally bowled out for 453, giving them a massive 320-run first-innings lead. Pakistan debutant Razaullah was one of the few bright spots for the visitors, finishing with four wickets.
Pakistan Lose Two Early Wickets
Pakistan's second innings began disastrously.
Ollie Robinson struck twice in the opening over, putting Pakistan under immediate pressure. The visitors eventually reached 52/2 before rain and poor light ended the day’s play early.
Shan Masood and Azan Awais provided some resistance, but Pakistan remains in an extremely difficult position.

What to Expect on Day 3
Pakistan's immediate objective will be survival. They need to erase a 268-run deficit just to make England bat again, meaning the visitors will need a huge partnership at the start of Day 3.
Shan Masood and Azan Awais are an important part of this, but much will be decided by Shan Masood and Azan Awais. If they can survive England's new ball attack and establish a durable partnership with each other, Pakistan could at least delay the inevitable.
For England the task is simple: to take eight wickets and complete a series clean sweep.
Ollie Robinson will be a part of England's plans again after his excellent performance with both bat and ball. His two wickets late on Day 2 have already put Pakistan under enormous pressure.

England began the third Test with a 2-0 series lead and the Edgbaston match has been all about England’s dominance. Pakistan have now lost 15 of their last 20 Tests, according to Reuters, highlighting the depth of their present troubles.
With England taking a 320-run first-innings edge and Pakistan starting Day 3 at 52/2, the hosts have a clear advantage.
If Pakistan's other batters can produce something extraordinary, England could finish the Test—and the series—within a couple of days.
