It was held in Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. India (Shreyas Iyer) won the semi-final and emerged victorious. India and Pakistan will meet for the Asian Games gold medal, it is expected to happen.
Ishan Kishan leads India’s Batting
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. India did not have the easiest start, but Ishan Kishan produced an outstanding innings to rescue the team and push the total to 169/7 in 20 overs.
Kishan remained unbeaten on 80 runs from 46 balls with four fours and five sixes. His aggressive finish gave India the momentum they needed after wickets fell at regular intervals.
Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also provided an attacking start with 38 runs from 21 balls and captain Shreyas Iyer contributed 13 runs.
Sri Lanka Collapse Under Pressure.
Sri Lanka needed 170 runs to win but struggled badly against India's bowling attack.
Indian bowlers kept taking wickets and Sri Lanka couldn’t form any meaningful partnership. The chase quickly turned into a one-sided contest as wickets were dropping.
Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 45 runs, giving India a big 124-run victory.
The result showed India’s strong bowling performance after a competitive batting performance.
Ishan Kishan creates a record
Kishan's unbeaten 80 was not only important for India's total but also a remarkable individual record.
His innings made him India's highest individual scorer from No. 5 or lower in men's T20 internationals, surpassing the previous mark held by Manish Pandey.
Hence, his ability to survive until the end was crucial, especially after India lost a few wickets in the middle overs.
India Set Up India-Pakistan Final
With the victory, India have reached the men’s T20 cricket final at the Asian Games.
India will now face Pakistan for the gold medal. The final will see another high-profile match between India and Pakistan, this time for the Asian Games gold medal.
For Shreyas Iyer, the 124-run victory over Sri Lanka is a great finish to the semi-final stage and keeps India on track for the top prize in men's cricket at the 2026 Asian Games.
