India will face five-time World Cup champions Brazil on Saturday, October 3, 2026, when the two sides go for a friendly match in Kolkata.
The match will be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, also known as Salt Lake Stadium, with kick-off time at 7:30 PM IST.
The match is historic because it is the first senior men's international meeting between India and Brazil. The AIFF officially announced the match in July and the date and venue were set.
India will be looking to test themselves against Brazil.
India enters the match after a 1-1 draw against Panama in Bengaluru on September 25. Ryan Williams scored India's goal in that game, giving the Blue Tigers an opportunity to test themselves against a higher-ranked opponent.
Khalid Jamil, head coach, will now face a much tougher challenge in Brazil. Jamil has stressed staying organised but also looking for opportunities to attack, AIFF said.
For India, we will have the opportunity to learn from a team with a very high international profile. On the defensive side, the Blue Tigers will have to be compact as well as trying to seize transitions and set pieces.
Brazil Bring Star Power To Kolkata
Brazil will arrive in India with a squad of international players. Vinicius Junior, Endrick, Marquinhos, Bruno Guimaraes, Gabriel Magalhaes and Estevao are among those that will have people’s attention.
Brazil are coached by Carlo Ancelotti, who will use the international window to build his squad after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Brazil recently played two friendlies against Australia. They drew the first match 1-1 and won the second 4-2. Vinicius Junior scored in the second.
However, Brazil will be without Raphinha as he withdrew from the squad after suffering a thigh injury.
India vs Brazil: Key Things To Watch
The main talking point will be how India will handle Brazil's attacking players. Vinicius Junior's pace and ability to create chances could test India's defensive organisation.
India's attacking transitions will also be important. Ryan Williams, Manvir Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad could look to exploit spaces when India regain possession.
The match could also provide an opportunity for Indian players to experience the tempo and pressure of playing against a top international side.
