India’s women’s table tennis team continued its impressive performance at the Asian Games 2026 with a 3-0 victory in the women’s table tennis team against Pakistan on Monday. The straight-set victory completed India’s Group F campaign with a perfect record and guaranteed the team a place in the quarterfinals of the women’s team competition.
The Indian team had won the first match of the group stage following Malaysia and Indonesia. Individually first Indonesia was fairly easy but Singapore was a tougher test against India and finally India won 3-2. The close win showed that the team can handle the pressure before India returned in dominant shape against Pakistan.
India achieved a 3-0 sweep over Pakistan.
Sutirtha Mukherjee gave India the perfect start in the opening match of the tie. She won against Alina Khan 11-3, 11-3, 11-4. Mukherjee dominated the match from the start and the contest was completed in 10 minutes, giving India an early advantage.
Cinderella Das then entered the table with India leading 1-0. She kept up the momentum by defeating Kalsoom Khan in straight games. Das won 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 and then India was within touching distance of team victory.
With India needing only one more win, Sreeja Akula became the final result. Akula defeated Fatima Khan 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 to complete India’s 3-0 sweep. The tie was completed in just three matches, so the other two matches did not have to be played.
India's total scoreline showed the control of India throughout the game. All three Indian players did not drop a game and the team had one more convincing win to complete the group stage.
India Finish Group F Campaign Unbeaten.
India had just opened its Asian Games campaign against Indonesia and had won 3-0. Then Singapore faced the team in a much tougher encounter. India eventually won the tie 3-2 and went into the final group match with qualification firmly in its own hands.
India’s victory over Pakistan was the signpost to the quarterfinals. The team’s unblemished performance in the group stage also gives them confidence heading into the knockout stage, in which every match will have far more impact.
India’s performance has the potential to improve on the 2022 Asian Games performance. That time the women’s team had crashed out in the round-of-16. Going to the quarterfinal this time will allow the team to compete for a place in the medal rounds.
Sutirtha, Cinderella And Sreeja lead India
The performances of Sutirtha Mukherjee, Cinderella Das and Sreeja Akula are crucial for India's victory against Pakistan. All three players won straight sets, so that a fourth or fifth match didn't happen.
Mukherjee took India's early advantage, while Das strengthened the team's position before Akula delivered the final blow. Their performance also illustrated the depth in India's women's team event.
