An Innova car lost control on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand and fell into a river near Dabrani. The accident resulted in an immediate rescue operation by local police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), water police and emergency medical teams.
The district administration said the accident took place near Dabrani, 20 metres ahead of Gangnani Dharmakund. The vehicle reportedly lost control before plunging straight into the river. Emergency services rushed to the spot after they got information about the accident.
On the orders of District Magistrate Prashant Arya relief and rescue teams were immediately rushed to the accident spot. Police personnel from local police station, SDRF and 108 emergency ambulance services reached the spot to start rescue work and provide assistance.
At first they pulled out four bodies from the riverbank but were not sure if there were still passengers in the car so water police officers and trained divers started an extensive search for anyone who might still be missing.
The rescue has been difficult because of the strong currents in the river. The water conditions have made it hard to search and rescuers have had to move slowly around the area while looking for clues. Teams are still trying to find out whether there were more people in the vehicle.
The district administration is monitoring the situation. Officials posted at the accident site have been asked to provide immediate help and conduct rescue operations as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile the Disaster Management Centre and medical teams have been put on alert. Emergency medical arrangements have been made to first aid any survivors and take them to hospitals nearby without delay; ambulance services are also ready for any medical emergencies that may arise during the operation.
The authorities are also trying to contact the families of those involved in the accident. Identifying recovered victims and informing their relatives are still important for the administration.
An investigation is under way to find out what happened. Officials will look into why the driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the river.

This incident has once again brought home the dangers of road travel in Uttarakhand’s mountainous terrain where difficult terrain, narrow roads and challenging driving conditions increase accident risk.
Rescue teams are still searching the river and more information about passengers, number of people travelling in the vehicle and cause of accident is awaited. District administration is coordinating with emergency response agencies while search operation is going on.
