Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showed a new tactical maturity to win a 65-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Match 6 of IPL 2026. KKR had 226/8 the highest total of the season so far and the visitors failed to sustain the chase under pressure despite a lightning start.
The 'Travishek' Storm and a Calculated Pivot
The Sunrisers’ innings began with the familiar fireworks of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The duo obliterated the KKR opening attack and constructed an 82-run partnership in 5.4 overs. Head scored 46 off 21 balls, and Abhishek scored 48 in 21 balls.
But unlike the reckless aggression in 2025, SRH made a strategic pivot this year. When they fell short in the middle innings with a score of 118/4, Heinrich Klaasen (52 off 35) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (39 off 24) didn’t panic and instead rotated the strike instead of going for boundaries on every ball, putting up an 82-run stand that supported the back end of the innings. This “situational” cricket allowed SRH to finish strong and reach a formidable 226.
KKR’s Blessing Muzarabani, who took 4/41 with the ball, was the only bright light in the team; the rest of the attack was poor; Varun Chakaravarthy again proved expensive, and KKR were criticized for only using their most economical bowler, Anukul Roy, for two overs.
KKR’s Batting: Chaos and Miscommunication
The chase began with a bang as Finn Allen took David Payne to the cleaners, scoring 25 runs in the first over. Allen’s cameo (28 off 7) gave the home crowd hope, but it would start a tactical meltdown when he was removed too early.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi fought a lonely battle and scored a gritty 52 off 29 balls. But he was unable to find any help. Ajinkya Rahane struggled to find his timing, and in the end, the innings was plagued by two disastrous run-outs Cameron Green and Raghuvanshi's own departure.
KKR’s decision-making, by not promoting Sunil Narine to the top order for Allen’s momentum, was questioned. Once Rinku Singh (35) fell, the KKR tail collapsed like a house of cards, and the team was bundled out for 161 in 16 overs.
