It brought together the celebrated sportsperson and police personnel to raise awareness about women’s security and encourage women to move around public spaces with greater confidence.

Borgohain was on patrol and spoke about the importance of initiatives that approach women’s safety from many sides. She said law enforcement agencies can help to build an atmosphere where women feel more at ease when travelling and going about their daily lives.

Borgohain said she was happy to be part of the Delhi Police initiative. She said women’s successes in sports were vital and female athletes’ success can also inspire women to overcome fear and pursue their goals.

Borgohain said winning a medal for the country is important, but women’s success at the recent Asian Games is even greater. She said such performances can encourage other women, and they build confidence and empowerment.

The boxer also noted that women’s safety requires a complete approach rather than relying on a single measure. She said patrolling, awareness, and other safety measures can be beneficial to women’s safety over time. Borgohain said women want to be able to move about freely and confidently, so public safety is an important issue for women.

Borgohain said female athletes have a collective responsibility to contribute to women’s empowerment and work for the country. Her engagement in the Delhi Police campaign adds a sporting voice to a public awareness initiative centred on women’s security.

It also comes shortly after Borgohain's own boxing success. She won the women's 75kg gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 on October 2 against China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 victory. The victory was on her 29th birthday, making it a big moment for the Indian boxer.

Borgohain’s performance throughout the final was composed. Bao started aggressively and tried to put pressure on the Indian boxer with a series of punches in the opening round. Borgohain, though, remained patient and relied on counter-punching to handle the aggression of her opponent. She won the opening round 3-2.

The Chinese boxer continued to press forward in the second round, but Borgohain found her rhythm more and more. She landed cleaner punches and kept the distance while limiting the impact of Bao’s attacks. Borgohain won the second round 4-1, giving her a 2-0 advantage on the scorecards.

Borgohain kept her tactical approach in the final round, where the gold medal was on the line. Instead of getting drawn into unnecessary exchanges, she allowed Bao to come forward and looked for opportunities to respond with accurate counters. She won the round unanimously and came out 5-0 ahead.

The victory was also significant for Indian boxing as Borgohain secured the country’s first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the women’s 75kg category. Her achievement was another big step in a career that has been successful at the international level, too.

Her involvement with the Delhi Police women’s safety campaign comes at a time when her Asian Games victory has put her back in the spotlight. Borgohain put her public profile to work to promote a message centred on confidence, safety, and women’s empowerment by joining women police personnel on the ground.

The initiative also underscores the broader role athletes can play outside competitive sport.

Borgohain’s message links sporting success with social responsibility, particularly the notion that women’s success can create a change in other people’s behaviour and make them more confident about themselves; in other words, to face any limitations and to be more competent in public life.

As Delhi Police continues its focus on women’s safety, Borgohain’s participation gives the campaign an additional public dimension. Her recent Asian Games success and her work within the safety campaign together highlight her role as a leading Indian boxer and public figure advocating confidence and empowerment among women.
