Glenn Phillips had a sensational batting performance as New Zealand made 259/7 against India in the fourth T20I at Eden Park, Auckland on October 30, 2026. His century (104*) helped put India under immense pressure in chase as Michael Bracewell’s quickfire half-century put India under immense pressure in chase.
Now India need 260 runs to win the match and retain their five-match series lead. The visitors have an aggressive batting line up so they will have firepower to attack the target but New Zealand bowlers will want to defend a massive total.
Glenn Phillips Smashes a Stunning Century
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl after New Zealand lost early wickets. New Zealand started aggressively but lost early wickets.
Glenn Phillips got the job done in the middle order and played a fine innings. The right-handed batter smashed 107 runs and reached his century off just 46 balls.
He hit big boundaries and sixes and put Indian bowlers under pressure. Phillips came on strongly in the later overs to help New Zealand cross 200 and build a big total.
Finn Allen also got off to an aggressive start (31 off 17 balls) while Phillips made sure New Zealand didn’t lose momentum after early setbacks.
Michael Bracewell Adds More Firepower
Michael Bracewell made India’s bowling attack work harder with an explosive 65 from just 25 balls.
He joined Phillips at a pivotal stage of the innings and launched an extraordinary assault. Bracewell hit seven sixes during his innings – including a sequence of big hits that helped New Zealand pick up valuable runs in the closing overs.
The partnership between Phillips and Bracewell changed the course of the innings and gave New Zealand a chance to get close to 260.
New Zealand eventually finished on 259/7 in their 20 overs.
Can India Chase 260 Runs?
India have a big target to chase but their batting has already shown it can chase big totals this series.
In the third T20I India chased down New Zealand’s 198 in just 13.2 overs. Abhishek Sharma was man of the match that day as he scored a sensational 113 off 38 balls. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also chipped in with 45 from just 19 balls.
However Sooryavanshi is not in India’s playing XI for this fourth match. Ishan Kishan came back into the side after recovering from injury and brings experience as well as attacking ability to the batting order.
Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma will be important players in India’s chase.
New Zealand Look to Defend Their Massive Total
New Zealand have set their bowlers a good total to defend. Mitchell Santner will expect his bowlers to get early wickets and stop India’s dangerous top order from getting going.
India have shown great chasing ability in the series but 260 is a very different target to what they have faced so far.
Phillips’ match-winning century made the fourth T20I an exciting contest. India have batting strength to chase but New Zealand will be confident after putting on 259.
The big question is: can India do another batting masterclass or will New Zealand finally win the series?
