That India-Pakistan cricket rivalry has again produced a moment that has fans laughing. A Pakistan cricket fan had a rather unusual request for team mentor Wahab Riaz after Pakistan achieved a comfortable win over Hong Kong in the Women's Asia Cup 2026.
Instead of asking for the Asia Cup trophy, the fan said he wanted Pakistan to beat India.
The comment came after Pakistan defeated Hong Kong by 72 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 7 September. The win confirmed Pakistan's place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Pakistan made 143 for eight after batting first. Hong Kong was bowled out for 71 in 19 overs. The star of the match was left-arm spinner Nashra Sundhu, who achieved a sensational six-wicket haul for seven runs. It was her first six-wicket pick in T20Is and the best bowling performance by a Pakistan women's cricketer in the format.
And although the players were taking their place in the knockout stage, one fan seemed to have a much different priority.

A video that went viral on social media shows the fan telling Wahab Riaz that the team does not need the Asia Cup trophy. He wants Pakistan to beat India.
The comment has amused cricket fans because Pakistan and India had already met earlier in the tournament.
India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in their group-stage match on September 5. Pakistan was bowled out for just 55, before India chased down the target in only 8.4 overs.
So that makes the fan's request even more ironic.
The next challenge for Pakistan will be Sri Lanka in the second semi-final on September 11. The PCB confirmed the semi-final qualification after the Hong Kong victory.
The fan’s comment also illustrates just how much significance is attached to an India-Pakistan match. For some fans, winning against the biggest rival can be almost as important as winning the tournament itself.
And it is in this moment where the moment actually becomes funny.
Imagine playing an entire Asia Cup, reaching the semi-finals and having a chance to win the continental trophy. Then someone walks up and says, essentially: “Forget the trophy. Just beat India.”

The timing is also interesting because Wahab Riaz himself had backed Pakistan to win the tournament despite the heavy defeat against India. When Pakistan was bowled out for 55, Riaz said he still believed Pakistan were the best side in the Asia Cup and had the ability to lift the trophy.
Pakistan has now reached the semi-finals and has another chance at the title. But the viral fan seems to have reduced the entire tournament to one simple objective: beat India.
However, Pakistan can’t face India in the semi-final. India and Pakistan are on opposite sides of the knockout draw, which means they meet again only if both teams finish in the final. The Women’s Asia Cup final will be held on September 13 in Dubai.
So, the fans' wish is still technically alive.
If India and Pakistan do meet in the final, the pressure will be very different. One team will be fighting for the Asia Cup trophy, while at least one fan will apparently be measuring success by one thing only.
“Trophy nahi chahiye. Bas India ko harao.”
And honestly, that fan is going to have a very stressful evening if that final happens.
